5% tint gives a 2020-2026 Kia Telluride an extremely dark, privacy-focused appearance. On this black 2022 Kia Telluride, we installed 5% standard film on the two front doors and 20% standard film over the factory-tinted rear glass. Layering 20% film over rear glass measuring around 20% created a finished darkness of approximately 4% to 5%.

The front and rear windows matched closely, making the entire passenger area difficult to see into during daylight. This setup provides strong privacy, but 5% tint can make nighttime visibility challenging and is best suited to drivers already experienced with dark window film.

This real installation included:

• 5% standard film on the two front doors
• 20% standard film over the factory-tinted rear doors
• 20% standard film over the factory-tinted quarter windows
• 20% standard film over the factory-tinted back window
• Approximately 4% to 5% finished darkness on the rear glass
• Factory windshield left unchanged

The exact trim level was not confirmed. This example applies to the 2020 Kia Telluride, 2021 Kia Telluride, 2022 Kia Telluride, 2023 Kia Telluride, 2024 Kia Telluride, 2025 Kia Telluride, and 2026 Kia Telluride.

The customer wanted a combination of privacy, appearance, glare reduction, and heat rejection. The family had recently welcomed a baby, and the darker windows gave the customer’s wife additional privacy while caring for or nursing the baby inside the parked vehicle.

Because factory privacy glass is colored glass rather than aftermarket window film, the original rear windows were not dark enough for the level of privacy the family wanted. Adding 20% film over the factory glass made the rear passenger area considerably more private.

The black exterior and black interior also complemented the darker windows, creating a consistent all-black appearance.

The 5% front doors matched the finished rear windows closely. Factory rear glass on many SUVs measures around 20%, but installing another layer of 20% film does not create a 20% finished result.

Visible light transmission is multiplied when two layers are combined:

20% factory glass × 20% window film = approximately 4% final VLT

Actual measurements can vary slightly because factory glass percentages are not identical on every vehicle. In appearance, however, the rear windows on this Telluride were close to the 5% film installed on the front doors.

Sunlight, reflections, viewing angle, and light entering through the windshield can still make one section appear slightly lighter in photographs.

During daylight, it was difficult to see inside this Telluride. The 5% front windows concealed most interior details, while the layered rear windows provided even stronger privacy for the passenger and cargo areas.

A person may occasionally see a faint silhouette through the front doors when direct sunlight enters from the opposite side. However, identifying the occupants or seeing clear cabin details is difficult under most daytime conditions.

The black interior contributes to the dark appearance because it reflects less light than a beige, gray, or other light-colored interior. This makes the same tint percentage appear darker from outside.

Five-percent tint is easy to see through during bright daytime conditions, but nighttime visibility is substantially different. Streetlights, parking-lot lighting, weather, individual eyesight, and surrounding traffic all affect how much a driver can see.

In a well-lit area, an experienced driver may find 5% manageable. In a dark neighborhood, poorly illuminated parking lot, or while backing into a space, it can be difficult to see pedestrians, curbs, vehicles, and other objects through the side windows.

Drivers may need to lower a window when parking or maneuvering in darker areas. The rear windows are similarly challenging because their finished darkness is approximately 4% to 5%.

For those reasons, we recommend this setup only for someone accustomed to driving with very dark film. First-time tint customers should consider a lighter percentage such as 15% or 20% before committing to 5%.

New Jersey restricts aftermarket tint on the front side windows and windshield of standard passenger vehicles. Rear-window rules differ by vehicle classification, but customers should understand that adding 5% film to the front doors can result in a traffic stop or citation.

The $99 price for the Telluride’s two front doors is regular two-window pricing. It is not the same as our $99.99 or $149.99 promotional full-vehicle packages.

Those promotional packages cover all side windows and the back window on certain qualifying two-door coupes and four-door sedans. The Kia Telluride is not eligible for either promotional package because it is an SUV.
