5% tint gives the Ford F-350 an extremely dark appearance with very strong daytime privacy. On this white 2026 F-350 Lariat, the front windows appeared nearly black, although certain angles and direct sunlight could reveal a faint silhouette inside.

The rear doors and back window looked even darker because we installed 5% film over the truck’s factory privacy glass. That combination brought the estimated visible light transmission in the rear down to approximately 1% to 2%, making it extremely difficult to see inside.

This white 2026 Ford F-350 Lariat came to Dope Tintings Automotive Window Tint in Pennsauken, New Jersey, for 5% carbon window tint. We installed the film on all four doors and the back window to create an extremely dark appearance with maximum privacy.

This truck had a black interior, which also helped the finished tint appear darker from the outside.

This F-350 looked extremely dark from the outside after the installation. The contrast between the white exterior and nearly black windows gave the truck a bold, finished appearance.

The amount you can see inside depends on the direction of the sunlight and your viewing angle. From some angles, the front windows can reveal that someone is sitting inside. However, the film generally creates a dark silhouette that makes identifying the person difficult.

The rear cabin provides considerably more privacy. Since the rear windows were already factory tinted, installing 5% film over that glass reduced the combined shade to approximately 1% to 2%. From most angles, passengers and objects in the rear are nearly or completely hidden.

The customer wanted maximum privacy and an extremely dark appearance. He also wanted glare reduction and additional heat rejection.

Carbon film was a good fit because it provides better heat rejection than our standard film without requiring the higher price of ceramic. It also gives the windows the dark appearance the customer wanted.

Factory privacy glass on the rear of a truck is already dark. Adding 5% window film does not leave the rear windows at 5%. The film and factory glass work together, producing a much darker combined result.

On this Ford F-350, we estimate that the rear doors and back window ended up around 1% to 2% visible light transmission. Exact results can vary depending on the original factory glass.

This explains why the rear windows look darker than the two front doors, even though we used the same 5% film throughout the installation.

It is extremely difficult to see through the rear of this F-350 during the daytime. The combination of 5% film, factory privacy glass, and a black interior hides nearly everything inside the rear cabin.

The two front windows may reveal a faint silhouette when direct sunlight enters through the windshield. You may be able to tell that someone is sitting inside, but identifying the person is much more difficult than it would be with 15%, 20%, or 35% tint.

Five percent offers significantly more privacy than those lighter percentages, but that privacy also comes with a major reduction in outward visibility.

I would not recommend this setup for an average driver, a first-time tint customer, or someone who has never driven with 5% windows.

This is a setup for experienced drivers who already understand how dark 5% becomes at night. Installing 5% over the factory rear glass takes the rear windows down to an even more extreme level.

If you are new to tinted windows, 15% or 20% will usually be more manageable while still creating a noticeably dark appearance. Five percent is for drivers who prioritize darkness and privacy and understand the visibility tradeoff.

Expect darkness. Five-percent tint is very dark when looking through it at night, especially in areas without streetlights or surrounding businesses.

Parking, backing up, checking for pedestrians, and making turns in poorly lit areas can become challenging. Drivers may need to lower the front windows to see their surroundings more clearly.

The rear glass will be even harder to see through because the 5% film was installed over factory privacy glass. This setup should only be selected by someone already comfortable driving with extremely dark windows.
