5% tint makes a 2016-2024 Chevrolet Camaro look extremely dark from the outside. Camaros have relatively small side windows and a compact cabin, so even lighter percentages can appear darker on this car than they would on a vehicle with larger windows.

On this blue 2020 Camaro SS, 5% carbon film made it extremely difficult to see anyone inside during daylight. The black interior and 35% tint installed on the windshield also reduced the amount of light entering the cabin, making the sides appear even darker.

This blue 2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS received 5% carbon window tint on the side windows and back window at Dope Tintings Automotive Window Tint in Pennsauken, New Jersey. It had a black interior, and the customer’s main goal was maximum privacy and a completely dark appearance.

This real installation applies to the sixth-generation 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, 2017 Chevrolet Camaro, 2018 Chevrolet Camaro, 2019 Chevrolet Camaro, 2020 Chevrolet Camaro, 2021 Chevrolet Camaro, 2022 Chevrolet Camaro, 2023 Chevrolet Camaro, and 2024 Chevrolet Camaro.

This installation included:

• 5% carbon film
• Driver-side window
• Passenger-side window
• Small rear side windows
• Back window

The size and shape of a vehicle’s windows affect how dark a tint percentage appears. The Camaro has small side windows, a low roofline, and a relatively compact cabin. Less light enters through its glass than it would through the larger windows of an SUV or pickup truck.

Because of this design, 5% tint creates an especially dark appearance on a Camaro. The black interior also absorbs more light than a tan, light gray, or other light-colored interior.

The 35% windshield tint contributed to the appearance by reducing the light entering from the front. However, the Camaro’s small windows would make 5% look extremely dark even without the windshield tinted.

It is extremely difficult to see inside this Camaro during daylight. From most exterior angles, you cannot clearly identify the person sitting inside.

Lighting conditions can always affect how window tint appears. Direct sunlight passing through the windshield or opposite window may reveal a faint outline, but 5% provides substantially more privacy than 15% or 20% tint.

Customers seeking maximum privacy often choose 5%. However, increased privacy also means considerably less visibility when looking outward at night.

The customer wanted complete darkness and maximum privacy. He also wanted the aggressive appearance that 5% gives a Camaro, along with glare reduction and some additional heat rejection.

We only recommend 5% on a Camaro for someone who is already accustomed to driving with very dark window tint.

It is not our first recommendation for a new tint customer or someone who normally drives with 15% or 20%. Moving from 15% or 20% to 5% is a significant change. A driver may eventually adjust, but 5% requires a much greater tolerance for reduced visibility.

The Camaro’s small side windows make this especially important. A percentage that is already dark becomes more challenging when the driver has a limited glass area through which to see.

Five-percent tint is very dark when looking outward at night. In poorly lit areas, drivers should expect to lower the main side windows when parking, backing up, checking for pedestrians, or trying to see nearby obstacles.

The Camaro’s small rear side windows will not provide much useful nighttime visibility. Even experienced drivers may need to roll down the larger windows in dark parking lots or on streets without sufficient lighting.

Anyone considering this percentage should think carefully about where and when they drive. Five percent may provide the desired appearance and privacy, but it is not the most practical everyday choice for every driver.
