The 5% ceramic film reduces solar energy entering through the rear doors, quarter windows, and back glass. This can make the rear seating area more comfortable than leaving those windows completely clear.

However, heat can still enter through:

• The clear front doors
• The untinted windshield
• A sunroof or panoramic roof when equipped
• Heat absorbed by the roof, doors, dashboard, and body panels

Air circulates throughout the cabin, so heat entering through the front glass does not remain only in the front seats. That is why a rear-only ceramic installation cannot provide the same whole-cabin result as ceramic on all side windows, the back glass, windshield, and sunroof.

For a customer tinting only the rear section, we generally recommend carbon instead of ceramic.

Carbon provides better heat rejection than standard film while costing less than ceramic. It can offer a practical balance for parents who want more shade, privacy, and improved comfort around children in the rear seats.

Ceramic remains the highest heat-rejection option, but its value is strongest when the major sources of incoming solar energy are also covered. Paying for ceramic only on the rear may not deliver the whole-vehicle difference a customer expects.

During the rainy, overcast conditions shown in these photographs, the rear section was difficult to see into from outside.

The front doors remained clear, allowing some light to enter the cabin. On a sunny day, that additional light would make the rear interior appear somewhat brighter than it did in the rain.

Even with the clear front windows, someone standing at a normal distance would still have difficulty seeing the child’s seating area clearly. Moving close to the glass or viewing through the untinted front doors may reveal more interior detail.

Five percent provides strong privacy, but no film guarantees that the rear cabin will remain completely invisible from every angle.

Five-percent film can reduce visible sunlight, glare, and UV exposure through the treated rear windows. Ceramic film also adds heat rejection through those pieces of glass.

Parents can choose 5%, 15%, or 20% depending on the desired balance between shade, privacy, and nighttime visibility:

Looking directly through the 5% back window will be difficult at night. Streetlights, headlights, and other surrounding illumination affect how much the driver can see.
