The WRX had a black interior, which helps the tint appear slightly darker from outside. The exact trim was not confirmed.

This was a returning customer who had previously chosen 35% on the front doors and 5% on the rear windows of his vehicles. We had recommended trying 20% or 15% on the front because those percentages would create a smoother transition to the 5% rear tint.

He originally stayed with 35% because he did not want his front windows to be too dark or attract unnecessary attention from law enforcement. After seeing the contrast between 35% and 5%, he decided the front windows looked too light compared with the back.

For this WRX, he chose 20% on the front doors. It gave him more privacy and a darker appearance while creating a better visual flow into the 5% rear section.

You can still see a silhouette through the 20% front windows during daylight. How much of the cabin is visible depends on the viewing angle, the direction of the sunlight, and how much light enters through the untinted windshield.

The 5% rear doors and back window appear almost completely private during the day. It is difficult to tell whether someone is sitting in the rear section of the vehicle.

The black interior also contributes to the darker appearance. If an otherwise identical WRX had a light gray or tan interior, the same percentages would generally look slightly lighter from outside.

In this customer’s opinion, yes. The 20% front windows created a better transition into the 5% rear windows than his previous 35% and 5% combination.

Thirty-five percent is noticeably lighter than 5%, so the difference between the front and rear can appear more pronounced. Twenty percent closes that visual gap while still allowing more outward visibility through the front doors than 5%.

I personally prefer using the same percentage across all four doors and the back window. However, for someone who wants additional rear-seat privacy without putting 5% on the front doors, this combination works well.

The 20% front doors are manageable for many everyday drivers. They provide a noticeable amount of darkness without being as extreme as 5%. The darker rear windows provide much stronger privacy for passengers or belongings in the back.

At night, the 20% front windows are easier to see through than the 5% rear windows. Visibility through the front should be manageable in well-lit areas, although a driver may need to lower a window when parking in a poorly lit location.
