15% tint gives a 1999–2005 BMW 325xi a dark, privacy-focused appearance without being as difficult to see through as 5% tint. On this silver 2005 BMW 325xi, we installed 15% carbon film on all four doors and the rear glass.

During daylight, the tint created a silhouette effect. Someone standing close to the BMW could tell that an occupant was inside, but facial features and interior details were not clearly visible. Fifteen percent is manageable for everyday driving, although visibility while parking in poorly lit areas can be challenging at night.

This real installation included:

• 15% carbon film on all four door windows
• 15% carbon film on the rear glass
• Factory windshield left unchanged

This example represents the 1999–2005 BMW 3 Series body style, with the featured vehicle being a 2005 BMW 325xi.

The customer wanted additional privacy, a darker appearance, glare reduction, and heat rejection. He considered 5% tint but decided it would be too dark for his driving needs.

Fifteen percent provided a middle ground. It made the BMW noticeably darker without creating the extremely limited nighttime visibility associated with 5% film.

Carbon film added better heat rejection than standard film while maintaining a dark, non-reflective appearance. However, the 15% shade—not the carbon construction alone—is what determined the darkness and privacy shown in these photographs.

During daylight, the 15% tint created a clear silhouette appearance. A person standing near the BMW could normally tell when someone was sitting inside, but seeing the occupant clearly was difficult.

The black interior helped the windows appear darker because it reflected less light than a beige, tan, or light-gray interior. Distance and viewing angle also affected the amount of detail visible through the glass.

Direct sunlight entering through the untinted windshield or opposite windows could make the front cabin appear lighter. From other angles, reflections across the silver body and windows made the interior more difficult to see.

Customers should expect strong daytime privacy from 15% tint, but not the near-total concealment provided by 5%.

Yes. Based on our experience, 15% is a manageable everyday percentage for drivers who want more privacy than 20% or 35% without committing to 5%.

During the day, outward visibility remains comfortable for most drivers. The film is dark enough to change the appearance of the vehicle and reduce visibility into the cabin without making normal daytime driving unnecessarily difficult.

Individual eyesight and previous experience with tinted windows still matter. Someone who has never driven with darker film may need time to adjust, while a driver accustomed to 15% or 20% will likely find it comfortable.

Fifteen-percent tint remains manageable at night when roads, intersections, and parking areas have adequate lighting. Drivers should still expect a darker side view than they would have through 20%, 35%, or untinted glass.

Poorly lit areas present the greatest challenge. It may become difficult to see curbs, parking-space lines, pedestrians, or other vehicles while parking. Lowering a window can provide a clearer view when maneuvering in a dark location.

For customers concerned primarily about nighttime visibility, 20% may provide a more comfortable balance. Drivers who prioritize privacy and already have experience with darker windows may prefer the stronger daytime privacy of 15%.

New Jersey restricts aftermarket window tint on the front side windows and windshield of standard passenger vehicles. Drivers should understand the potential for a traffic stop or citation before choosing 15% for the front doors.

Rules for rear side windows and back glass differ from the restrictions covering the driver and passenger windows. Medical exemptions also have separate approval and documentation requirements.

Two-front-window pricing is not listed because customers tinting this four-door sedan typically request all four doors and the back window for a consistent appearance.

This BMW is not eligible for the $99.99 or $149.99 promotional tint packages. German vehicles are automatically excluded from both specials, even when the vehicle is a qualifying two-door coupe or four-door sedan body style.

Financing is available for qualifying customers through American First Finance. Approval and payment terms are determined by the financing provider.

The best film depends on what you want the tint to accomplish:

• Standard film: The lowest-priced lifetime-warranty option for customers focused mainly on privacy and appearance.
• Carbon film: A mid-level option with better heat rejection than standard film. This is the film installed on the featured BMW.
• Ceramic film: The highest heat-rejection option for customers who prioritize interior comfort and infrared-heat reduction.

All three film types can produce a 15% appearance when that shade is available. Ceramic film is not automatically darker or clearer solely because it is ceramic; the selected VLT percentage determines how much visible light passes through the window.
