15% tint gives a 2021-2026 Ford F-150’s front windows a dark appearance while still allowing a silhouette to remain visible during daylight. On this black 2021 Ford F-150 STX, we installed 15% carbon film on the two front doors and 35% carbon film over the factory-tinted rear glass, bringing the rear windows down to approximately 10%.

The front and rear windows do not match perfectly because the rear glass is darker. Instead, the setup creates a gradual contrast, with 15% on the front doors and approximately 10% on the rear doors and back window.

This information applies to the 2021 Ford F-150, 2022 Ford F-150, 2023 Ford F-150, 2024 Ford F-150, 2025 Ford F-150, and 2026 Ford F-150.

This real installation included:

• 15% carbon film on the two front doors
• 35% carbon film over the factory-tinted rear doors
• 35% carbon film over the factory-tinted back window
• Approximately 10% final darkness on the rear glass

The windshield was not included in this installation.

The customer was initially unsure whether he wanted an extremely dark 5% appearance or something more conservative. He considered creating a 5% look throughout the cab but ultimately decided that would be darker than he wanted.

His preferred choice was approximately 10% on every window. However, we do not carry a 10% film that could produce that exact appearance on the clear front doors. He therefore selected 15% for the front doors and added 35% over the factory-tinted rear glass, producing an estimated final rear percentage of around 10%.

This combination gave him more privacy and a darker appearance without committing to 5% on the front doors. Carbon film also added glare reduction and more heat rejection than our standard film.

No. Fifteen percent on the front doors is visibly lighter than approximately 10% on the rear glass. However, the difference creates a clean contrast instead of making the truck look mismatched.

The black exterior and black interior help the entire cab appear darker. Sunlight, reflections, viewing angle, and the amount of light entering through the untinted windshield can still change how the front windows look in photographs and in person.

Customers wanting a more uniform appearance would need to choose a different combination. This customer preferred keeping the front doors slightly lighter for better outward visibility.

The 15% front windows create a silhouette effect during daylight. Someone standing outside can usually tell that a person is inside, but identifying the person becomes more difficult depending on the angle and sunlight.

The rear doors and back window provide significantly more privacy. With 35% film installed over the existing factory tint, the rear portion of the cab became difficult to see through from outside.

This makes the setup useful for someone who wants stronger rear privacy while keeping the driver and passenger windows slightly more manageable.

The 15% front windows are manageable at night for many drivers who have experience with darker tint. Visibility is generally better in areas with streetlights, parking-lot lighting, and other surrounding illumination.

In poorly lit areas, the driver may need to lower a front window while parking or backing up. Individual eyesight also plays an important role in how comfortable 15% feels after dark.

The approximately 10% rear windows are more challenging to see through at night. Drivers should expect noticeably reduced rear and side visibility in dim conditions compared with untinted glass or a lighter percentage.

For those reasons, I would recommend 15% on the front doors to someone comfortable with moderately dark tint. The 10% rear setup should be chosen with a clear understanding of the additional nighttime darkness.
