The Armada pictured throughout this article is an actual 2026 Nissan Armada tinted at Dope Tintings in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

The rear windows already had dark factory privacy glass.

Like many SUV owners, the customer didn't want to darken the entire vehicle.

She simply wanted the two clear front windows to more closely match the rear.

We installed:

20% carbon film on the driver and passenger front windows.

The finished result gave the Armada a much more consistent appearance from front to rear.

Yes.

Based on our experience with this generation, 20% gives a very close visual match to the factory privacy glass in the rear of the Armada.

That doesn't mean the rear glass itself necessarily has aftermarket 20% window film installed.

Factory privacy glass and aftermarket window film are different products.

We're talking about the visual match.

When an Armada owner asks us:

"What percentage should I put on the two front windows to match the back?"

20% is where we normally start.

This is where installer experience matters.

Some tint shops may install 15% on the two front windows because the front of the vehicle receives considerably more light through the windshield.

From outside the vehicle, that additional light can make 20% on the front doors appear lighter than the factory rear privacy glass.

Using 15% can compensate for that appearance when someone is standing outside looking at the SUV.

But there's a downside.

Once you're sitting inside, 15% on the front doors can appear noticeably darker than the factory rear glass.

That's not the type of factory match we're trying to create.

At Dope Tintings, we'd rather install a percentage that more closely matches the actual rear privacy glass instead of deliberately making the front windows darker simply to manipulate how they appear from outside.

For this generation Armada, 20% is our preferred factory-match starting point.

The windshield.

If nothing is installed on the windshield, a large amount of daylight enters through the front of the SUV.

That light illuminates the front cabin and can make the front door windows appear lighter from outside.

The rear cabin doesn't receive light in exactly the same way.

That's why comparing tint percentages by standing outside a vehicle can sometimes be misleading.

You should consider how the glass looks from both:

• Outside the vehicle
• Inside the vehicle

Our goal with a factory match is to get the front windows reasonably close to the factory rear privacy glass—not simply make the SUV appear uniformly black from one exterior viewing angle.

• Window gaskets aren't unusually tight

As with any modern vehicle, however, preparation and interior protection still matter.

The gaskets aren't particularly tight and the glass itself isn't unusually challenging.

However, with our installation method, we recommend removing the two front door panels when we're tinting the front windows.

It's not absolutely necessary.

The vehicle can still be tinted with the panels installed.

But removing them gives us better working access and helps us produce the top-notch installation we're after.

Not necessarily.

This is an important distinction.

You can tint the front windows without removing the panels.

With our installation process, however, we recommend removing the two front panels because it provides better access.

One area where that can make a difference is near the:

Side-mirror corners.

Leaving the panels completely installed can make those areas more challenging to finish exactly the way we want.

That's why our preferred approach is panel removal when appropriate.

The corner of the glass near the side mirror can be an area where working clearance becomes more limited.

An installer may still be able to complete the window without panel removal.

But we're interested in producing the cleanest result we reasonably can.

Better access allows us to properly position the film around those tighter areas rather than simply rushing the installation because it's "only two windows."

One thing installers should pay attention to on this generation is the soft interior material used around the doors.

From our experience, these surfaces can be relatively easy to damage if the installer isn't careful.

That means protecting the interior isn't optional.

It's part of properly preparing the vehicle.

Yes.

Professional window tint installation involves heat.

Heat guns are commonly used during different parts of the installation process.

If an installer carelessly holds a heat gun too close to leather or other soft interior material, excessive heat can:

• Burn the surface
• Discolor it
• Distort it
• Cause permanent cosmetic damage

That's one reason we're careful about interior protection even on a vehicle we otherwise consider relatively easy to tint.

A simple film installation shouldn't turn into an interior repair.

No.

Based on our experience, the rear doors are relatively straightforward for an experienced professional.

The gaskets don't create an unusual challenge and there isn't anything about the rear door glass that makes us consider this a particularly difficult installation.

No.

We consider the rear quarter windows straightforward.

They're another reason why the Armada's large physical size shouldn't be confused with installation difficulty.

It's a big SUV, but most of the glass is relatively manageable for an experienced installer.

No.

The rear hatch glass is also relatively straightforward from a film-installation standpoint.

As always, the vehicle still needs to be properly prepared and protected before installation begins.

From a film-installation standpoint, it's relatively straightforward for an experienced installer.

The bigger concern is water and installation-solution control.

Modern vehicles contain sensitive electronics behind and around the dashboard.

When installing full-windshield tint, we protect the lower windshield/dashboard area and control how much installation solution we're using.

Potentially.

An installer shouldn't be flooding a modern vehicle's dashboard with installation solution.

Water traveling behind the dash can potentially reach sensitive electronics, including modules that control vehicle functions.

That's why windshield preparation isn't simply about cleaning the glass.

It's also about protecting what's underneath it.

With newer vehicles, installers need to pay attention to:

• Dashboard protection
• Electronic modules
• Wiring
• Sensors
• Installation-solution volume
• Where the solution is traveling

Proper preparation reduces unnecessary risk.

This customer had two goals.

She wanted the two clear front windows to more closely match the dark factory rear privacy glass.

20% accomplished that.

She also wanted additional heat rejection around the driver/front-passenger area.

That's why she selected carbon rather than our standard film.

For a customer only tinting two front windows, carbon can offer a good balance between performance and price.

For many customers, yes.

If you're only doing the two fronts but want more than appearance alone, carbon is the option we recommend discussing.

That's exactly what happened with the featured 2026 Armada.

The owner wanted the factory-matched look but also wanted some additional heat rejection while driving.

Carbon made sense for those goals.

Usually, we don't recommend spending the additional money on ceramic solely for maximum cabin heat rejection when you're only tinting two front windows.

Why?

Because the Armada has a lot of glass.

Solar energy can still enter through the:

• Windshield
• Rear doors
• Rear quarter glass
• Rear hatch glass
• Sunroof or panoramic roof when equipped

Installing ceramic on only two pieces of glass doesn't create the same overall cabin heat-rejection strategy as addressing the major sun-exposed glass throughout the vehicle.

There can be exceptions, including customers with specific medical or personal needs.

But for a typical customer tinting only two fronts, carbon is generally the option we'd recommend discussing first.

That's a completely different goal from simply matching the factory rear windows.

If an Armada customer tells us:

"I want maximum heat rejection."

we want to discuss the entire vehicle.

A comprehensive ceramic setup can include:

• Front door windows
• Rear door windows
• Rear quarter glass
• Rear hatch glass
• Full front windshield
• Sunroof or panoramic roof when equipped

The idea is to address the major sun-exposed glass surfaces instead of putting high-performance film on two windows while leaving large untreated areas exposed to sunlight.

No.

This is an important misconception.

Film darkness and film technology aren't the same thing.

Ceramic films can be available in lighter percentages.

A customer interested in heat rejection doesn't necessarily need an extremely dark-looking windshield or extremely dark side windows.

However, film availability and appearance should not be confused with what is legal to install.

New Jersey has specific rules regarding front-side-window and windshield tint.

We'll discuss those below.

Factory privacy glass and aftermarket performance window film should not automatically be treated as the same thing.

Privacy glass is primarily darkened glass.

A customer whose only goal is appearance may be satisfied with leaving the factory rear glass alone and matching the two front windows.

A customer whose priority is heat rejection should discuss film performance and whether adding appropriate film to additional glass areas makes sense.

That's another reason we ask what you're trying to accomplish before recommending a package.

A large glass roof is another sun-exposed area.

Again, the goal determines the recommendation.

Don't choose a percentage simply because another Armada owner did.

20%.

If your priorities are different—such as lighter appearance, nighttime visibility or another specific need—you may prefer something else.

Window tint percentage is ultimately based on customer preference and goals.

For a factory rear match, we prefer 20%.

15% is darker.

A shop may choose 15% because additional light entering through the windshield can make the front windows look lighter from outside.

But once you're sitting inside, you may notice the fronts are darker than the factory rear glass.

Our preference is to get closer to the actual factory appearance instead of intentionally making the front windows darker.

20% is considerably darker than lighter films such as 35%.

Any time you make automotive glass darker, nighttime visibility should be part of your decision.

That doesn't mean 20% is automatically right or wrong for you.

It means you should consider:

• How much you drive at night
• Your personal vision
• How well-lit your normal roads are
• Your privacy goals
• Your appearance goals
• Applicable window-tint laws

Don't choose tint percentage based solely on a daylight photograph.

This is especially important for the setup discussed in this article.
